The New and Improved Jott.com
February 20, 2008We went and gave ourselves a makeover! The Jott website is now faster, easier to use, and has more functionality. The new site is really the product of all the great feedback we’ve received about different ways people use Jott, different ways they wish they could use Jott, why we are great, why we are not so great, and what we should strive to be. For the past several months we’ve been chugging away at some great new features and sleek redesign, all to aide in the quest to Get Simple Back!
Check out what’s new:
Folders are now lists
Keep all those to-dos in one neat and tidy place! New functionality includes the ability to drag your Jott messages from your All Jotts to a list for simple additions, set items on your list as a reminder or as high priority (or both!) and cross them off when you are done. Last but not least, you can now print out your Jott Lists in a convenient check list to take with you wherever you go.
All Jotts feed
Rather than the traditional inbox, we decided to move forward with what is essentially, a feed of all your Jott messages. Basically, this means that all of the Jott messages you send, whether they are to yourself, to others or to Jott Links, as well as the Jott messages others send you, will all show up in this one place.
Drag and drop
You’re all used to this from Outlook and other email clients. Want to move something to a list? Grab the orange tab that appears when you roll over the Jott message and drag it there. You can send Jotts to other, to Jott Links, to your phone or printer this way too.
Contacts
Your most frequently Jotted contacts will show up in the right column under the Manage Contacts section. To see all of your contacts, import or add new ones, or change any of their contact information, simply click the Manage Contacts link.
Added reminder functionality
You can now hit the snooze button on your reminders. Reply to any Jott reminder whether via email or text message with Snooze and get another reminder 15 minutes later. You can also now add a reminder easily from the Jott website by typing the subject of your reminder in the Add Jott text box at the top of the All Jotts page and then clicking the Add a Reminder button.
Email and text message your account
The anti-Jott? Not quite! We’re bringing things full circle to offer you multi-modal access to your organization and communication system. Now you can add contacts to your account and items to your list by texting or emailing while away from your computer. Forgot that person’s email address but know you have it in your Jott account? Text message or email your account to retrieve that info.
As always, we are all ears and would love to hear what you all think. We’ll continue to work out some kinks over the next few weeks as we gear up for some truly outrageous new features coming your way.

Where’s the user forum gone? Is it just that I can’t find it on the new site or are we now disenfranchised?

I love the idea of text messaging to my Jott account, but I’d love it even more if I could find instructions about how to actually DO it.

@ Chris- We hope not disenfranchised! We actually love that people comment on the site, and in a few days the places with comment capabilities will expand. The forums are gone, but comments on all the How To pages will be enabled, so you can ask questions and give feedback that way. We’re hoping it will be easier for people to learn the ins and outs of the product if everything is housed in one place.
@Danielo- Directions can be found on the How To pages. Scroll down to the Power Tips section and you will see how to text message your Jott account, and there will be a link to other power tips as well.

Hey, I love the redesign. But there is one feature I’m disappointed in not seeing. I’m a heavy Jott user and I print out lists from many of my Jott folders. When you have a half dozen hard copy lists in your hands it’s hard telling them apart at first.
I’d like the print feature to pop in the title of the folder (list) at the top of the page for me. That way I don’t have to manually scribble it in.
It’s a small change, but would make a big difference for me.
Great work, folks. Your service is my most used web service bar none. I’m truly an evangelist for Jott.

Thanks for the suggestion, that’s a great idea!

It seems we cannot jott to our links (e.g. google calendar) via text messaging. Will this be a feature added in the near future? Because that would just be perfect.

We’ll continue to expand the functionality of what you can text message and email. Good to know Jott Links should be high on the priority list

One thing that I can’t figure out since you upgraded the site is how to listen to Jotts. When someone Jotts me, I get the transcript email and there’s still the “listen to audio” link, but it just takes me to Jotts I’ve sent, not any incoming ones. Is listening gone? Are the audio versions of past Jotts I’ve received gone? I do think you’ve got a great service and I use it frequently, so thanks for the great tool.

You can still listen to any Jott sent via the phone, including the audio for your past Jott messages. When you scroll over the Jott message on the All Jotts page, you should see a fly out appear and in it a speaker icon. Click and on the speaker icon (which will be orange if there is audio for that Jott message) to listen to the audio.

Thanks for the fast reply, Kate! So, maybe I’m doing something wrong, because the only Jotts I see on the All Jotts page are ones I’ve sent to other people, and none of the ones other people have sent to me over the past few months. Example: In Yahoo mail, I received a Jott from a friend last night. I open the email, read the transcript, and click the “listen to audio” link. That gets me to your site, and I see a list of Jotts, but they are just ones I’ve sent, and I see none that I’ve received, not even the one that I came here from. Any ideas, or is this something for Support?
BTW, I am often amazed at how well your speech recognition algorithm works. Great work!

The new Jott site it taking some getting used to, but I know I am in good hands. The only thing that I am REALLY missing is the ability to complete a Jott right on the main list. The old way, I would mark many as complete all at one time, then archive them in just a couple of clicks. Now, I have to manually drag and drop each individual task, which is quite time consuming.
Also, is there ANY way that the page doesn’t have to refresh EVERY time you drag a Jott to a list? That one could get really annoying really quick.

Hi - I’m getting used to the new look - I’m sure it’s got some great advantages - but I am having trouble adding new contacts. I use Jott with gmail - myname+labelname@gmail.com - and Jott isn’t saving the email addresses, just the contact name! I add new contacts, but the email addresses all come out blank.
Jott has really lowered my stress levels, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! We’ll continue to make some changes and fine tune the new site based on the suggestions we’ve received.
@Lisa- are you Plaxo to import your Gmail contacts?
Comment by kate — February 26, 2008 @ 12:57 pm
Looks like Google Contacts API is out. I assume Jott will be scoping it out. What are the potential outcomes?

The Jott Links page isn’t working well, at least not in Firefox. I cannot see all the Jott Links I subscribed to, Plus the All Jott Links page is missing several that were there before.

I have a couple of contacts who use neither e-mail nor text messaging. Is there any way to send my Jott message to a landline phone as just the original voice recording? I somehow thought this was a feature available when I first signed up, but hadn’t really looked into it until now.
Jott is a great utility, with or without this function. But its addition would really help me include a few 20th century types in the communication loop of our organization. Thanks for any guidance!
Comment by Steven — March 26, 2008 @ 3:49 pm
Hi Steven, right now that is not a feature of Jott, though you can always use the service just to send them just emails and not text messages.

It’s probably listed in the help somewhere, but I can’t find it….
Is there a way to reterieve a list (i.e. grocery) from my phone as a text message? This way, I wouldn’t have to remember to print it out and could get it on the fly whenever I need it.
